Song Lyric Sunday – “Seminole Wind” by John Anderson

The lyrics take us on a journey of the destruction of natural habitat, financial gain, the devastation of the Seminole Indian people and progress.

Song Lyric Sunday – Short People

The beginning of the song is quite dark in its delivery that “short people got no reason to live”, however if you continue to listen as it goes on, it also states “short people are the same as you and me”.

Song Lyric Sunday – Country Thinking

Country music is close to my heart and this week I give you a good old fashioned drinking song released in 1980 and a fun fantasy song released in 1999. The first is about love that doesn’t exist anymore and the second is about a guy who uses the sex appeal of his tractor to get the girl.

Song Lyric Sunday – “In Color”

The song I chose this week is “In Color” by Jamey Johnson. This song is a tribute to the generation of people that were my grandparents.

Song Lyric Sunday – DJ – Spin Em’

“Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me” made me cry the first time I saw George Michael sing it and introduced Elton John onto the stage. I got chills playing it back and watching it again tonight. It has always been my favorite version. “Jungle Love” was in the normal rotation by the DJ at the E-club in 1984-1985 when I was on base at Camp Lejeune and influenced my jive dancing.

Song Lyric Sunday – “All The Gold In California” by Larry Gatlin & The Gatlin Brothers

“All the Gold in California was written by Larry Gatlin , released in August, 1979 and reached #1 on the US Hot Country Songs and #2 on the Canadian RPM Country tracks.

Song Lyric Sunday – “Polk Salad Annie”

“Polk Salad Annie was written & performed by Tony Joe White aka Swamp Fox in 1968. White grew up listening to country music and Cajun music of Louisiana.

Song Lyric Sunday – “The Snake Song” Billy Gilman

This week I chose “The Snake Song” by Billy Gilman. The lyrics are quite quirky!

Song Lyric Sunday – “I Like Birds” by Eels

This week I chose 2 songs. The first one is by Eels called “I Like Birds”. The second one is “Bird Dog” by The Everly Brothers. Two very different songs but I couldn’t make up my mind.

Song Lyric Sunday – “Husbands & Wives” by Roger Miller & Others

Husbands and Wives is a mid-tempo waltz in the key of C major. It is about a couple who is breaking up. With both parties having too much pride in themselves to reconcile.
