Song Lyric Sunday – DJ – Spin Em’

This week Jim Adams has prompted us with choosing song titles starting with a “D” or a “J” for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday. This week I chose two songs. One starting with a “D” and one with a “J”. Two very different songs that were significant at different times in my life. These are outside my normal genres. “Jungle Love” was in the normal rotation by the DJ at the E-club in 1984-1985 when I was on base at Camp Lejeune and influenced my jive dancing.

“Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me” made me cry the first time I saw George Michael sing it and introduced Elton John onto the stage. I got chills playing it back and watching it again tonight. It has always been my favorite version.

Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me

I can't light no more of your darkness
All my pictures seem to fade to black and white
I'm growing tired and time stands still before me
Frozen here on the ladder of my life

Its much too late to save myself from falling
I took a chance and changed your way of life
But you misread my meaning when I met you
Closed the door and left me blinded by the light

Don't let the sun go down on me
Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see
Id just allow a fragment of your life to wander free
But losing everything is like the sun going down on me

Ladies and gentlemen Mr. Elton john

I can't find
Oh, the right romantic line
But see me once and see the way feel
Don't discard me baby don't
Just because you think I mean you harm
Just because you think I mean you harm, oh
But these cuts I have, cuts I have
They need love
They need love, they need love to help them heal

Oh, don't let the sun go down on me
Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see
Id just allow a fragment of your life to wander free
Cause losing everything is like the sun going down on me

Don't let the sun go down on me
Although I search myself, it's always someone else I that see, yeah
Id just allow a fragment of your life to wander free baby, oh
Cause losing everything is like the sun going down on me

I said I, I am dangerous
Girl I wanna show ya (show ya)
My jungle love, yeah (oh we oh we oh)
I think I wanna know ya (know ya)
Jungle love (oh we oh we oh)
Girl I need to show ya (show ya)
You, you've got a pretty car
I think I wanna drive it (drive it)
I Drive a little dangerous
Take you to my crib and rip you off
Huh (Jungle love)
Look out, Oh! (oh we oh we oh)
I think I wanna know ya (know ya)
Oh, Jungle love (oh we oh we oh)
Girl I need to show ya (show ya)
Spoken:
Come on baby Where's your guts
You wanna make love or what
(Oh we oh we oh)
I wanna take you to my cage
Lock you up and hide the key
(Oh we oh we oh)
You are only getting part of pig
Cause if you're hungry
Take a bite of me
(Oh we oh we oh)
My jungle love, yes (oh we oh we oh)
I think I wanna know ya (Know ya)
Hey Jungle love, mmm (oh we oh we oh)
Girl I need to show ya (Show ya), yeah yeah yeah
My jungle love (oh we oh we oh)
I think I wanna know ya (Know ya)
Jungle love (oh we oh we oh)
Girl I need to show ya (Show ya)
Hey Jesse
Now Jerome, yes!
Check it out
...(Oh we oh we oh)
My jungle love (oh we oh we oh)
I think I wanna know ya (Know ya)
Oh Jungle love, yes (oh we oh we oh)
Girl I need to show ya (Show ya)
My jungle love (oh we oh we oh)
I think I wanna know ya (Know ya)
My jungle love (oh we oh we oh)
I think I wanna, I think I wanna (know ya)

    • Thanks Janis! It was out of my norm but I love almost all genres of music except rap. Not my thing except some of the old stuff from the 80’s and early 90’s.

  1. Both absolutely great choices, though not familiar with Jungle love it’s a good song. As for George and Elton you can’t go wrong can you. πŸ’œ

  2. Great selection Lisa. there is something about Jungle that reminds me of Michael Jackson’s Thriller and i guess it is the beat, but also the dancing.

    • Oh, the dancing! That was the point of me sharing this one from the 19 year old mind of myself. The DJ would often follow it with “Purple Rain”. So you get all hot and sweaty dancing to “Jungle Love” and then try to dance close to someone for “Purple Rain”. Awe….the 80’s! πŸ™‚

  3. What a great performance with Elton and George! Really enjoyed hearing and seeing it.
Jungle Love wasn’t familiar, as I was thinking it was another song! πŸ™‚

    • Elton and George has been a favorite from the first time I saw it on MTV. Yeah, Jungle Love by Steve Miller Band is the more popular titled song. πŸ™‚
