This week Jim Adams has prompted us with choosing song titles starting with a “D” or a “J” for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday. This week I chose two songs. One starting with a “D” and one with a “J”. Two very different songs that were significant at different times in my life. These are outside my normal genres. “Jungle Love” was in the normal rotation by the DJ at the E-club in 1984-1985 when I was on base at Camp Lejeune and influenced my jive dancing.
“Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me” made me cry the first time I saw George Michael sing it and introduced Elton John onto the stage. I got chills playing it back and watching it again tonight. It has always been my favorite version.
I can't light no more of your darkness All my pictures seem to fade to black and white I'm growing tired and time stands still before me Frozen here on the ladder of my life Its much too late to save myself from falling I took a chance and changed your way of life But you misread my meaning when I met you Closed the door and left me blinded by the light Don't let the sun go down on me Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see Id just allow a fragment of your life to wander free But losing everything is like the sun going down on me Ladies and gentlemen Mr. Elton john I can't find Oh, the right romantic line But see me once and see the way feel Don't discard me baby don't Just because you think I mean you harm Just because you think I mean you harm, oh But these cuts I have, cuts I have They need love They need love, they need love to help them heal Oh, don't let the sun go down on me Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see Id just allow a fragment of your life to wander free Cause losing everything is like the sun going down on me Don't let the sun go down on me Although I search myself, it's always someone else I that see, yeah Id just allow a fragment of your life to wander free baby, oh Cause losing everything is like the sun going down on me

Thanks Janis! It was out of my norm but I love almost all genres of music except rap. Not my thing except some of the old stuff from the 80’s and early 90’s.

Both absolutely great choices, though not familiar with Jungle love it’s a good song. As for George and Elton you can’t go wrong can you. 💜

I know a lot of people probably thought “Jungle Love” by Steve Miller Band which was much more popular but this one reminds me of being 19 years old, in the E-Clubs on the Marine Corps bases. It was usually followed by “Purple Rain”. NO, you can not go wrong with Elton and George. 🙂

Great selection Lisa. there is something about Jungle that reminds me of Michael Jackson’s Thriller and i guess it is the beat, but also the dancing.

Oh, the dancing! That was the point of me sharing this one from the 19 year old mind of myself. The DJ would often follow it with “Purple Rain”. So you get all hot and sweaty dancing to “Jungle Love” and then try to dance close to someone for “Purple Rain”. Awe….the 80’s! 🙂

Jungle Love was new to me too. I’m not entirely sure they made it big in the UK but you can see Prince’s influence. Great choices.

Yes, it was certainly classic Prince. It was fun to dance to as a 19 year old hanging out in the club. 🙂

What a great performance with Elton and George! Really enjoyed hearing and seeing it.
Jungle Love wasn’t familiar, as I was thinking it was another song! 🙂

Elton and George has been a favorite from the first time I saw it on MTV. Yeah, Jungle Love by Steve Miller Band is the more popular titled song. 🙂

Thanks Christine! Elton & George together is my absolute favorite version. So many people hadn’t heard Jungle Love before. So glad I chose it because it was part of my party time days in the Marine Corps. 🙂

Yes I was! 12 years total. In 6 years…out 6 years…went back in for 6 years. Yesterday’s inauguration made me miss it! Luckily, I’m too old to reenlist now. My body couldn’t handle it. LOL! 🙂
