SQUARES – Bright Light City

Las Vegas, Nevada

The first two lines of the lyrics to Viva Las Vegas sang by Elvis Presley is “Bright light city gonna set my soul, gonna set my soul on fire”. Everything about Las Vegas sets my soul on fire every single time we visit. Frank & I don’t go to Vegas as typical tourists for all the shows and thrills this part of the city is known for. I do participate in one Texas Hold Em’ tournament when I go. It is nice to spend a couple of days and nights exploring those bright lights, however, we go there for the natural attractions outside the city. We relish in the beauty that is the red rocks and desert. The birding is phenomenal in March/April.

The Las Vegas strip is filled with bright lights, mostly neon, but I found beauty in the lighting of the hotels. I chopped them up into squares, but I wanted to show the panoramic that I took from the other side of the street in front of Bally’s which is your above squares. I had to get out of the proverbial box for a minute.

Panoramic night view of the Bellagio with The Cosmopolitan on the left and Caesar's Palace on the right in front of the fountains.

Viva Las Vegas (the song) was written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman. Viva Las Vegas (the movie) was written by Sally Benson, directed by George Sidney and starred Elvis Presley and Ann-Margret.

    • I’m sure many of them are. I know the Bellagio has rooms but you couldn’t pay be enough to get on a flight now or in the next few months. We get our second shot tomorrow and I still may be leary for another year yet. 🙂

  1. ooh thanks for the tip about being a good base for the surrounding area, particularly the birding – might just be the info that convinces MrB it would be good to visit!

    • It is a great place to go outside. We always rent a minivan. Buy a cooler at Walmart, get our food for the week at Whole Foods and we day camp on our adventures. Mount Charleston, Floyd Lamb Park, Desert National Wildlife Refuge, Lake Mead & Hoover Dam, Henderson Birding Preserve are all hotspots for us. At least one day each. This will give you some things to research. 🙂
