Country music is close to my heart and this week I give you a good old fashioned drinking song released in 1980 and a fun fantasy song released in 1999. The first is about love that doesn’t exist anymore and the second is about a guy who uses the sex appeal of his tractor to get the girl.
No artist has ever written with conviction as Merle Haggard. His songs project his feelings at the time they were written. The lyrics to “Today, I Started Loving You Again” was a “love at first site” but with a broken heart that had healed and then reminded of the love that was lost but still there after putting eyes on that past lover.
Merle Haggard was married 5 times and had 4 children. Merle’s second wife was Bonnie Owens.
There is no denying WIllie’s guitar and these lyrics fit so well with the mood of his melody.
