Here is my entry for Granny Shot It’s Bird of the Day (BOTD) challenge.
The Common Gallinule, AKA Common Moorhen is a marsh bird that is often co-existing with Rails, Coots, and Bitterns. They hang around the tall marsh grass & often hug the shore in freshwater or brackish water. Sometimes I see them out in the open with the other birds, but many times they are ducking into cover. They swim similar to ducks but can walk over lily pads with their interesting long toes. In a moments notice, you can observe them clucking along calmly & the next moment comes their ear piercing high-pitched calls that will leave you wondering if someone has died.

May be called a common moorhen, but I’ve never seen one before; just the black and white ones. Great pic 😁

Thanks. Yes they hang with the American coot. That’s the black & white one. A trip to Florida would give you a good look. 🙂

I find Gallinule is just to hard to remember how to spell so I’ve stayed with the Moorhen label. Nice shot and yes those toes are creepy!
