Bird Weekly – Photo Challenge – Birds with Butts in the Air

Dabbling ducks is what came to mind when I set this challenge. They frequent ponds and shallow water for tasty vegetation. Among these ducks are American Black Duck, American Wigeon, Blue-winged Teal, Cinnamon Teal, Eurasian Wigeon, Gadwall, Green-winged Teal, Mallard, Mottled Duck, Northern Pintail, Northern Shoveler and Wood Duck.

Bird Weekly – Photo Challenge – Long legged Birds

Long-legged birds tend to have a pronounced strut when they walk. Long legs are something I know nothing about since I’m only 5′ 1″ tall. I related much better to the short-legged bird challenge.

SQUARES – American Avocet – Two of a Kind

Two American Avocets in breeding plumage. One is foraging as you can see while the other is strutting along slowing looking for insects and small crustaceans. They forage by sweeping their long bills from side to side with the tip of the curved bill barely submerged.

Week #18 challenge is Birds starting with the letter “A”. The letter “A” needs to be at the beginning of one or more of the name. For example, Some of my favorite shots are going to be shared in this post. A few have made appearances before and some are new to my blog world. Anna’s Hummingbird, Smooth-billed Ani or American Goldfinch.
