This week I chose “The Snake Song” by Billy Gilman. The lyrics are quite quirky!
This week I chose 2 songs. The first one is by Eels called “I Like Birds”. The second one is “Bird Dog” by The Everly Brothers. Two very different songs but I couldn’t make up my mind.
Husbands and Wives is a mid-tempo waltz in the key of C major. It is about a couple who is breaking up. With both parties having too much pride in themselves to reconcile.
No artist has ever written with conviction as Merle Haggard. His songs project his feelings at the time they were written. The lyrics to “Today, I Started Loving You Again” was a “love at first site” but with a broken heart that had healed and then reminded of the love that was lost but still there after putting eyes on that past lover.
I chose “Boondocks” by Little Big Town. This song is relatable to me! I was born in a small town in Texas and learned to play cards and dominos at a young age. When I stayed with my grandparents in the country on the weekends, we would get up and go to church on Sunday morning.
This week I chose “Stupid Cupid” by Connie Francis which has an upbeat, bubblegum blowing, hula hooping type of feel to it. Francis released It was released in Italy in 1959 by Neil Sedaka on his “As Long As I Live” album by RCA Italiana.
Ghosts are also known as spirits and this week I have chosen Norman Greenbaum’s “Spirit in the Sky”. The song was written and originally recorded by Norman Greenbaum. Greenbaum has always been known as a “one hit wonder” as this was his only number one hit.
Elvis Presley may be known as the “King of Rock n’ Roll”, but George Strait is known as the “King of Country”. He is the most influential and popular recording country music artist of all time. He is a real Texas cowboy who just happens to be able to stand at a microphone and put the country roots into any song he can get his hands on.
Night Ranger’s drummer, Kelly Keagy wrote the song about his sister who was coming of age. Keagy’s sister, Christy was 10 years younger than him and was growing up fast. The lead singer, Jack Blades sang lead vocals on most songs for the band, but Keagy sang the lead on this one from his drums. The original song title was “Sister Christy” but the band thought Keagy was singing “Sister Christian” so that became the title.
