SQUAREs – Perspective – Flock of Nandays

In January, we went to see the kids and grandkids in Tampa for the holidays. We always go after Christmas because my brother-in-law visits from Baltimore during the week of Christmas. On an outing to Fort Desoto Park in Tierra Verde near St. Petersburg, Florida, I made it my mission to get the Nanday Parakeet onto my life list. I had seen them years earlier in St. Pete, but I wasn’t recording birds back then. Within 20 minutes of driving into the park, I heard them long before I saw them. They flew directly over our car which we had just parked in one of the many parking areas. I jumped out and headed towards the beach where I found them. There were 28 in all. What a lucky moment because we didn’t see them the rest of the day and was there for over 8 hours. Bird of the Day…You Betcha!

    • They perched at the top of some mangroves after I got these shots. Not sure I counted them all but counted what I saw while they stayed still for 5 minutes. 😊

    • They can be found in south Florida, (Ft. Lauderdale, Miami southward and in St. Pete! Maybe other places, but those are the only known for sure places I know about. They are not up here anywhere. 🙂
