From my perspective, I was close enough. Okay, I took this with my 200mm full frame lens but it is not cropped except to make it square. Close enough! This gator was seen in Okefenokee Wildlife Management in Georgia. Living in Florida, it is second nature to see them.
This gator was sunning on the opposite bank while we were hiking in the St. Marks Wildlife Refuge near St. Marks, Florida. At one point, this animal got in the water. We had Heaven on the leash and needless to say, we picked her up and carried her back to the car, keeping an eye on where that gator was at all times.
Danger certainly puts things in perspective!

It takes a lot to scare me. Only get scared if we have Heaven with us or if we are being stalked while in the kayak. Both Frank and I are very conscious of our surroundings! 😊

I almost dedicated this post to you. When I took that too photo, you and I had already been discussing your lack of love for the gator. I mentioned it to Frank so we pulled over. I’ve been saving it for just the right moment. 😂😂😂

I just read about a 9-foot gator (with no front arms) that was laying out in front of someone’s front door in Tampa. It was not happy about having to leave…

Yeah, that’s somewhat common. Not the front arms but gators showing up on people’s door steps. I’m not helping you move to Florida, am I? Developers wipe out habitat and the animals become homeless. Most move on to other spots, but some just don’t leave. Many times, Florida Fish & Wildlife will come out and relocate the animals, especially gators. 🙂 We’ve never had a gator in our yard or anywhere near our house, but we live in house that was built in 1963.

I’m all for protecting wildlife, but gators just really freak me out 🙂 Maybe moving to Florida will actually help me face my fears…

I love that! I faced my fear when I had to have a closed MRI. I’m claustrophobic. I made the mistake & opened my eyes while in there. Major panic attack, but I got through it. 😊

Yea, I’m not a fan of closed-in spaces either. At least if I ever come face to face with an alligator, it will likely be out in the wide-open! Glad you got through your MRI!

I’ve had several but after that episode, I’ve had open MRIs. I faced my fear and don’t feel like facing it again, thank you very much. 😂😂😂

Yeah, that an oxymoron. Can’t have one without the other. Hawaii doesn’t have gators??? I like that alternative. I’m ready to go! 🙂

I don’t believe hawaii has gators, or snakes. And our middle son has lived there for the past several years, so we have had a chance to visit a few times. It’s a beautiful place, but so far removed from everything. Plus, he will be moving in the near future back to the mainland…

My dad lived on Maui when he passed away 5 years ago. He got island fever. I haven’t been to the islands since 1984. I think it would be too far from my kids & grandkids. 😊

It’s a way of life. What I find amazing is we have met people out on the trail who are looking for gators. We are out looking for birds. A lot of the time it is tourists. If I took photos of every gator I’ve seen in my life, I’d have a full 256 gig card. 😊
