Many people associate Friday the 13th with the Halloween movies starring the fictional hatchet guy Jason Voorhees. Jason was believed to have drowned in Camp Crystal Lake due to negligence by camp staff. There are 12 movies total with the original moving released in 1980. Jason’s mother began stalking and murdering teenagers as they prepared Camp Crystal Lake for reopening after the loss of her son.

I saw the first film as a 14-year-old and was creeped out then. I haven’t kept up with the franchise, but it was popular and netted over 468 million US dollars worldwide.

Origination of Friday the 13th

It is believed that the taboo of Friday the 13th originated when 12 people sat at the Lord’s table with Jesus. 13 total. The last supper took place on a Thursday. Jesus was arrested that night and was crucified the next day on a Friday. Was this necessary? To murder a man, in spite of the reason for his sacrifice? I’ll leave that you and your own beliefs.

Superstitions

Friday the 13th is synonymous with other superstitions like a black cat crossing your path, walking under a ladder, and breaking a mirror which will bring you 7 years of bad luck. My mother-in-law believed it was bad luck to wash clothes on a holiday. Do you believe in superstitions and if so, what are they? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Hmm. The rarity of Friday the 13th followed by tomorrow’s annular eclipse. Doesn’t get any better than this.

I thought you might. Patience rules. You’ve got a total eclipse wating for you just around the corner in 2024.
