What’s the one luxury you can’t live without?

The one luxury I would never want to live without is freedom. Without freedom to choose, we become refuges of our former selves. June 6th just marked 80 years since D-Day and the beginning of the end of WWII. Thank you to our troops then, now and in the future for protecting our freedom. Thank you to our allies who gave their lives for us to live free. Semper Fi!

We are keeping our 20 month old grandson 4-5 days a week. What a blessing, but a ton of work. I still have my Etsy shops and tons of Dr. appt. I’m going to be having surgery on my left foot. The same tendon is torn as my right foot. It has been 3 years since that surgery and I’m still having issues. My BFF and I are editing and doing rewrites on our novel after taking almost a year off from that. It’s been interesting for sure. 😂 How are you doing?

I totally agree, Lisa! I had just finished reading a novel about the war (fiction). It was set is Paris and it ended when the Nazis left Paris. It told a fictional story of two separate women and the under cover work they did. It was such a great story and when I realized D-Day was here, I was anxious to learn more and listen to the stories. Yes indeed. Many lives were wrongly taken, and many lives were given so we could be free. Bless them all who fought for our freedoms 🙏

We are watching Masters of the Air on Apple TV. We have 2 parts left leading up to D-Day and I’m guessing the end of the war. Most of them are in a POW camp after being shot down. My hubby’s dad received 2 silver stars in the war and he was in this type of unit. It’s very nostalgic for him.

Oh wow, it is hard to learn about what everyone went through, but I think it’s important to know. So sad. I am so grateful for all our military people!

Well said, Lisa. With freedom in mind I’m reminded that a synonym for the word is  “America.” Hope you enjoy Waylon’s song, America, at the below web link. Lee Greenwood also has a song about America but a situation I had to deal with during my two-year tour in Greece caused me to have a lifelong dislike of the entertainer.  His USO tour performed at Hellenikon Air Base in Athens. My commander, a die-hard fan of Greenwood’s signature song, Proud to be an American, (the song he had played at every damn squadron social function I had to attend during my tour, aaarrrggghhh) told me to report to his office immediately. I was chief of communications maintenance at the time. Seems Greenwood’s keyboard got damaged and the commander ordered me to get it fixed so the USO show could go on that night. Of course, the commander and his wife had front row seats. Just so happens that one of my enlisted electronic techs was also a semi-pro musician. His favorite instrument was the electronic keyboard. I asked him to head down to the base’s hangar where Greenwood and his band would put on the show. My tech was more than happy to see what he could do to repair the damaged keyboard. Important to note, my tech played pop and rock music, not country. About two hours later the tech came by my office to tell me that he not only repaired Greenwood’s keyboard but loaned Greenwood one of his spare keyboards. Unfortunately, the arrogant Greenwood did nothing to personally show his gratitude to my enlisted tech. He was even so rude to exclaim in front of my tech, “Let’s get this f _ _ king show going. We’ve already had enough delays in this f _ _ king s _ _  t hole.”  I praised the tech for his outstanding work and made sure his next performance report included an endorsement from me about his going the extra mile. The show went on. The commander and his wife had a blast. And Greenwood offered no public offer onstage of gratitude for how my enlisted tech made sure his show went on as scheduled.  I never did like Greenwood for years before the USO show. Nothing’s changed since. I told the commander about Greenwood’s crude behavior and lack of gratitude. Of course, the colonel dismissed me from his office without further word about the show or any gratitude for how one of the people under his command saved the show. And on that note, the luxury I can’t live without is America (my word for freedom). And not how Greenwood sings about it, but the way Waylon Jennings does.Skip Waylon Jennings – America (Official Video) (youtube.com)

Maybe he was having a bad day. I saw him at the Ft. Worth Stock Show Rodeo in the late 80’s. Don’t remember the year. He performed at the rodeo and seemed very humble. I guess things are not as they always seem. I was home on leave at the time.

Typically, when a performer is on stage, the individual is acting with an undeniable happy face for the paying customers.  Once off stage and away from the audience . . . watch out. During the mid-1990s I was managing a grant project at a two-year college in NJ. We hired a married black woman to be the project’s admin assisstant. We had a conversation one day about Oprah Winfrey. Seems the woman’s sister attended one of Oprah’s shows and somehow managed to get an off-stage view of her while talking with staff. Again, on stage Oprah’s a sweet heart. But off stage that day . . . well, I won’t convey the expletive-laden sentiments my co-worker’s sister had for Oprah.  Be it the 1980s or 1990s, such is life on The Third Rock.

I’ve met a lot of nice people off stage. My list is long. The only one that was awkwardly unsocial was Ronnie Dunn. Kix Brookes was really down to earth. Aaron Tippin was fun. We met all them on the same night.
