Hello to all my friends in the WP community. I’ve been away for a long time. A lot has happened in the past two years. Some planned and some unexpected. Life has been turned upside down. I had foot surgery from a torn tendon in June 2021 and have had a rough go at recovery. I’ve gone through physical therapy, pain management and a stem cell injection. I can’t wear closed shoes, much less hiking boots for more than a couple of hours. I will be going through another procedure in January, 2024 in hopes they don’t have to cut it open again.
In October, 2021, one of my dear friends broke her hip. After breaking it and/or dislocating it many times and undergoing 4 surgeries, we found out she has dementia and possibly Parkinson’s. While in rehab with the hip, she broke her pelvis in two places. Frank and I spent endless hours helping her stay alive. Long nasty story there with her now ex-husband. She finally got out of rehab after 6 months and is living in an apartment with her daughter. Another friend of mine is her daytime caregiver.
We haven’t gone birding or hiking much since my surgery. This year has been better and we have taken a few weekend trips on trails that we can drive. We have seen 190 different species compared to 94 in 2022. I bought an E-bike and that has changed my life! I can get out on trails and be in nature that I haven’t been able to hike to. Life changing, actually! I finally got decent pics of the American Flamingo at St. Marks Wildlife Management Area in March.

2023 has had it’s ups and downs. My beloved Heaven went to her namesake on February 5th. I suffered panic attacks for a while. My uncle passed away after suffering a heart attack in April and we flew to Texas. First flight since the pandemic.

When I returned, I underwent a nuclear stress test. Turns out, I had a 90% blockage in an artery in the left ventricle of my heart. They put in a stent and now I have blood flow once again. I developed a hematoma and spent the night in ICU. That was fun! I’m lucky to be here! The pain in my chest wasn’t just panic attacks.

In the past year, I have been writing a full-length novel with my best friend. We finished it on July 31st and want to publish under our pen name, ML Quinn. We are now seeking representation. I’ll keep you posted on that as I am setting up a new blog, mlquinnbooks.blog. Pure optimism here!
Good news! We had two new grandbabies born in 2022. One in April and one in September. Both boys!
I’m not sure when I will continue Bird Weekly and I’m sorry I dropped off the face of the Earth for the past two years. Our Etsy business has grown leaps and bounds and has turned into a full time job. Yay!

Glad to know you are still around Lisa. Bird Weekly was a good challenge. There is a new challenge that I.J. started this year so we have had somewhere to go 😁

So much dropped off the edge of the world during the past few years — including me, to some extent. I went through a very long, very bad siege of ill health that seems to have — after 20 years — eased off. I get it. I hope you get a little better every day until one day, you look at yourself and realize, you ARE better. Please let me know if you are on a new site. I loved your site, by the way and I missed you.

I still have my site. I lost some things when I lowered my plan. I’m not starting up Bird Weekly at this point and will be on sparingly.
Im sorry to hear of your health issues too. Praying for you. I’ve missed you as well.
I am better, but much of my health issues are contributed to being at Camp Lejeune. I’ve filed for service connected disabilities. Waiting for the VA to decide. 😊 good to hear from you.

We are watching West Wing. They are dealing with Leo’s heart attack. They are breathless with excitement that his heart finally started on its own. Hell, MINE never started on its own. That’s why I have a pacemaker. I live by a single really powerful battery. When I try to get the guys in the heart group to talk to me about this in some detail, they wave at me and say “You’re fine.” I get no respect.
You will get better. You sound like someone getting better. I hear it in your words. And it really does improve — first slowly, then suddenly. Do what you can and avoid my person nemesis, overcommitment. That way you can at least quit without the world falling down.

Great advise! Bless your pacemaker little heart! 💜 I’m good with my heart for now. It’s the darn foot causing my problems. 😜

The huge problems are often a lot less aggravation than the “non-lethal” ones. The heart thing had its own issues, but it doesn’t bother me on a day-to-day basis. On the OTHER hand, the arthritis and my decrepit spine — which won’t kill me but will somehow manage to make me miserable anyway — never leaves me alone.

Good to hear from you. I was rooting for the Bluejays last week, thinking of you when they played the Yankees. Watching the Rays & Yankees right now. I’ve missed our baseball chatter too. I cut my cable last year and didn’t have Ballys. I did not watch one single game last season. I stream Fubo now and have only missed games on networks I don’t have. It’s been so much better. ⚾️⚾️⚾️ Go Rays! 😎

You certainly have been resilient to come through everything with your Etsy shop thriving and remembering us at WP. I’m so glad you got your stent in so that you can enjoy like more.
When I had difficulty working through my total knee replacement, my physical therapist recommended a TENS/EMS unit. I found it very helpful to eliminate stiffness and swelling. Now, I use it on lots of unhappy body parts! I don’t know if it would help you, but I’m putting it out there just in case!

I appreciate the kind words. I have a tens unit and I was given a provant machine and did therapy on my foot using solar waves. It helped but didn’t fix it. The stem cell helped but didn’t fix it either. The procedure I’m getting next has to wait until January because I’m in Plavix until November. I can go under until after I’m done with that medication. In the meantime, I’ll keep moving along. I’ve missed my blog. 😊

I was checked out by a doctor who evaluated me for stem cell therapy. It didn’t look like it would pay off for me; things had gone too far. I’m sorry that you’re still working on finding the treatment that works. I hope it happens soon. November seems a long way away.

It will actually not happen until January. It’s been over 2 years so a few more months won’t matter. 😎

You know how you think “I wonder what happened to so and so? Well, I did and found that you’d had a pretty horrendous episode in your life. I hope that you are now much better and that you are able to be a bit more mobile even though there is never any way back to being a spring chicken with boundless energy and mobility!
Good luck with getting published. I hope everything goes well and that you achieve ongoing success.
Here’s to improved health for all of us. Love and hugs.
