This week Jim Adams has prompted us with choosing a song pertaining to Hop | Jump | Leap | Pounce | Spring for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday. I chose “Spring Breakdown” by Luke Bryan.
Unfortunately during a pandemic, Spring Break takes on a whole new meaning. Here in Florida, thanks to our great leading governor, Spring Break is open for business. Can you say SUPER SPREADER??? Today, Saturday, March 20, 2021, Florida reached a milestone of 2 million positive cases in just over a year.
Even with growing concerns of covid variants, Florida is seeing an influx of spring breakers flocking to the Sunshine State regardless of CDC guidelines. This disregard for themselves and others is frightening and disrespectful. Our awesome (reeking with sarcasm) team of state leaders can’t see what is coming and don’t care to hear the concerns of its residents. One article from Scary Mommy by Julie Scagell on March 14, 2021 emphasizes the concern that local governments have within their own cities. With this type of behavior, the pandemic could be endless and forever! This is not what Buzz Lightyear meant when he said, “To infinity and Beyond”!
For now, from the comfort of my home, I will enjoy Luke Bryan’s “Spring Breakdown” and stay close to my state park beaches where the teenie boppers don’t visit because there are no bars to do body shots or restaurants to gather. There is no beach volleyball or wet t-shirt contests. I sound like a fuddy dude, but at some point, we all have to grow up and be responsible adults who can still have fun while social distancing.
“Spring Breakdown” is an ode to his fans who attended his Panama City, Florida concerts during spring break over several years. There is a time and place, but 2021 is not it! Hopefully, sometime in the future, spring break can get back to what it once was for these young people. As for us old folks who live here, we can’t get back to normal while this is allowed to continue. 2020 was a disaster and a super spreader event and this year is looking like a repeat performance.
Thank you Luke, for the memories! Love you on American Idol!

It's been a real good run Playing out here in the sun Year after year, beer after beer I've watched this crowd grow I swear y'all don't know what ya mean to me It's been something to see I remember when we started this week long party And to think that it's over It makes me wanna spring breakdown Just thinking about all our good times together And how we rocked this town And I wish it could last forever and ever Ohh but the sand runs out And we roll back home And just thinking bout how This is our last song I'm bout to spring breakdown Next year I'll go through pictures Wishing I was down there with ya hanging out It'll kill me then, but I'm here right now So let's raise up our cups Can't throw 'em up high enough Let me buy you one last round Before I spring breakdown Just thinking about all our good times together Yea how we rocked this town And I wish it could last forever and ever But the sand runs out And we roll back home And just thinking bout how This is our last song I'm bout to spring breakdown We made this sun tan city yea all of y'all's Sing-a-long so loud We took this beach town over Y'all don't know it might sound crazy But y'all gonna make me spring breakdown Just thinking about all our good times together And when we rocked this town And I wish it could last forever and ever Ohh but the sand runs out And we roll back home And just thinking bout how This is our last song I'm bout to spring breakdown Swear I'm bout to spring breakdown Y'all up there on them shoulders The good and bad hangovers I'm bout to spring breakdown Source: Musixmatch Songwriters: Bryan Luke / Crowell Zach / Gorley Ashley Glenn

I saw pictures of the huge, mostly maskless crowds on the beaches in Florida. It boggles my mind. Good song, though!

Yes, the song is good and of course Luke Bryan hasn’t performed at spring break for a few years. The crowds at our beaches is really terrifying.

DeSantis is an awful governor and all he cares about is money. I never went to a Spring Break party because I didn’t do to college till 7 years later after I graduated Hugh school and then I went to a community college. I hope you can enjoy tour beach in peace Lisa.

You are right about DeSantis. Did you hear that him and Rick Scott have started their banter to run for President in 2024? Ugh! I didn’t do spring break either. I went to college when I was 30. The whole spring break thing is going to get us in worse shape than we were last year. 2-3 weeks from now, there will be major spikes. Frank and I are getting our first vaccine on Wednesday. I became eligible today. Frank has been eligible for a while as he is 10 years older than I am but chose to wait for me. π

Thanks but it’s not my birthday or was that sarcasm? My birthday is in September. DeSantis just lowered the age to 50+ starting yesterday. I guess that’s kinda like a birthday. π

Fortunately Spring Break isn’t a thing in the UK. I’ve heard a lot about how the pandemic is being managed (or mismanaged) in Florida from my friend who lives there. He’s appalled by what he is seeing at times and staying well clear, like you. Stay safe!

Appalling is the appropriate word to describe our governor. We don’t go to those beaches anyway, but eventually those kids are around their loved ones and the cycle begins again. We get our first shot on Wed. We will continue to wear mask and social distance. My BFF & hubby are in the same situation…just them and they are coming for another visit in a few weeks. It is the only socializing we can do. I haven’t seen my grandkids in over a year and they just live a 3 1/2 hour drive. Once we get the shots, we will be more inclined to visit them. π

I like the fuddy duddy idea better. Today is the perfect day to get out in nature. Away from the crowds.

It was rainy and windy so we didn’t go anywhere. The sun finally came out about an hour ago for the first time since last Friday. The weather is shaping up to be real nice next week for our anniversary so I’m getting excited about going birding. π

Thanks. The sun finally came out yesterday after 4 days and today was beautiful. Unfortunately the high on Friday is 90.

I saw Miami Beach has declared a state of emergency. Too much to think about. The song is a great escape to abetter time, thank you for sharing it today.

What an appropriate song seeing that it is Spring Break in FL this week! I love the line βyear after year, beer after beerβ. Great pick Lisa βΊοΈ

Thanks Christine. Yeah, we just don’t want the spring breakers here this year. Miami called for a state of emergency. It is really bad right now. I love Luke Bryan and the song! π

Good song, but I’d never heard it before. That video scares me! So many people crowded together. Even when I was young I wouldn’t have ever done anything like this. With the pandemic I don’t see how the spring breakers can disregard safety. π

The video was from years past. Luke Bryan is not touring right now. He’s doing American Idol. Miami declared a state of emergency due to the crowds that are much like what is in the video. Our governor let it happen and promoted “Florida is Open for business!”. π

Yes, just a little bit disrespectful for all residents! Miami declared a state of ememercy. It’s super bad. π

After all we have seen through the past year it is disappointing to see so many people behave like that. They are willing to put so many other people at threat so they can have their party weekend.

100% agree! I blame the governor for allowing Florida to have a large neon sign saying FLORIDA IS OPEN! Like a cheap motel or something. Ugh!

Great song , I remember seeing all the kids crowding on to the beach at Fort Lauderdale when we were there, lots of them were drinking…which surprised us as though our permit alcohol at 18 in America it’s 21 isn’t it . Long hot summer days…

It used to be 18 when I was 18. It changed to 19 when I was 19 and 21 when I turned 21. I was smack in the middle of the change. When there are that many of them down there, no one checks for ID or if they do, the kids have fake ones. I’ve never cared about their partying until last March and now. It’s ridiculous and we are headed for another major outbreak. I’m getting my first vaccine today. π

I hope the Vaccine went well. Kids never learn they believe they are invincible, untouchable. They forget they can be A-symtamatic carriers and by virtue of that killers! π

I did, thank you! I turned off my phone and when I woke up, I had a string of stuff. Missed calls from my daughter, Etsy orders, and a bunch of junk that I’m glad I didn’t hear pinging. π Sometimes you just have to shut it all down.

Exactly! We need that down time. I’m off next week, in and out. Frank and I are celebrating our anniversary and planning on going birding. Maybe even take the kayak out. I’m excited about getting away from the computer for a few days. π Working on my posts now for scheduling next week.
