Sometimes

Today, I thought I would share a poem I wrote over 35 years ago. I read Sometimes at my grandmother’s funeral in 2000. It has been published in Poetry.com, but I have never shared it on my blog. I wanted to share it today in honor of our inspiring friend, Sue Vincent. She is dealing with terminal cancer and I want her to know that we are here for her as she has been here for us. This is for you, my friend even though I’ve only known you a little over a year. The creativity you have brought out of me with #WritePhoto has been one of the best times of my life and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me to write creatively again.

Sometimes

Sometimes people love
Sometimes people hate
Sometimes it's inevitable
Sometimes it is fate

Sometimes there are miracles
And many there may be
Faith is in the beholder
As far as one might see

Only sometimes...

In dreams we think of heaven
And how bright life is
Sometimes we take those dreams
And seal them with a kiss

Sometimes we hurt inside
Our feelings are very strong
But as we say we're sorry
The feelings we had were wrong

Only sometimes...

The words we speak
The things we say
Are sometimes happy
Day by Day

During those sad times
We sometimes think
Of those little things
That life brings

Only sometimes...

Where there is life
There is death
Sometimes we cry
Sometimes it's best.

Only sometimes...

Thank you for the kind words. Thank you Sue for helping me get it back. The honor of knowing you (from afar) has touched me! Still praying for that miracle! My grandmother touches me all the time and she is responsible (from heaven) for finding Frank. That is a story in itself. Short version….I talked to her on a beach in Ft. Lauderdale on the anniversary of her death in 2004. Wishing for someone who loved nature & the things I loved. When I got home the day, I had a message from Frank on plentyoffish.com. Yes, we met on a dating site. I solely think she is responsible for the fate of my life. I know when it is your time, we may be losing a fine human being on earth, but heaven is gaining an angel. Love to you! πŸ™‚

The help we can get from the other side of life can be more than we can expect or believe.. but of it works, why would we question it πŸ™‚ xx

Thank you Terri. When I wrote it at age 19 or 20, I had no idea what the hell I was doing but apparently there was something there. I had taken Creative Writing my senior year in high school and found myself in a foreign place outside of Texas in the Marine Corps with no family around. I wrote a lot back then. This is my favorite of all the poems I’ve ever written. πŸ™‚
