Sunday Stills – Backyard Birding – 10.25.20

At the final hour, I am posting my Sunday Stills from last Sunday.

This post is in response to TERRI WEBSTER SCHRANDT Sunday Stills challenge. The theme this week is Backyard Birding.

Birds fly from the front to the backyard constantly. We have plenty of trees and great cover in the backyard with a fountain and the front yard has the feeders. This week I was able to sneak around the shrubs in the front to get these photos. You can see more birds from my yard in my Bird Weekly post from last week here.

Carolina Chickadees have been hard to capture because they come, get their grub and leave. Quick little things. I barely clicked my shutter before this one did a “grab and go”.

Then the second one came in for a landing and stayed a hot minute! Gotcha!!!

The next elusive bird for me to capture is the Tufted Titmouse. We had four of them on the feeders at once but wouldn’t stay still. I finally got this one picking out his little morsel.

We have had a record number of Eastern Bluebirds in our yard this year. At one time a few weeks ago, there were 8 in our yard at the same time. It was very cool.

The Carolina Wrens entertained us in the spring while in lockdown. We had a pair that laid 4 eggs. 3 chicks survived and this was one of the parents bringing a moth to the nest. The Wrens are back and I’m sure we will have more young uns’ in a few months.

Thank you so much Cathy! They are fun! Frank rebuilt the perches yesterday so it will be interesting to see how well they like it. Not many birds today. We dropped 20 degrees since yesterday. The cold front will be short lived but they are hunkered down today. Pretty windy too. ๐Ÿ™‚

We’re in for a cold spell too apparently, but thank goodness for the end of the storms. Lots of flooding in the area but we’re on a hill luckily and the gales have died down ๐Ÿ™‚

Itโ€™s going to be nice the next couple of days & there is a hurricane heading to Honduras but is going to get picked up and pushed into the Gulf of Mexico. It could get pushed into Florida. No matter what, we are in for a lot of rain this weekend. โ˜”๏ธ

I like the bird at the top, I assume it’s a cardinal?

They have been quite visual this year. We just walked Heaven and Frank went to vote. On our way back home, we saw 6 bluebirds in our neighbor’s yard. Looked like a couple of them were juveniles trying to figure it out. The parents were on the wire and they were on the ground flying (or trying to) fly up in the tree. ๐Ÿ™‚

I guess sometimes childhood likes and dislikes is not always a predictor of future interests!

Your entire yard sounds conducive to flocks of happy birds, Lisa! Great shots and good sneaking!

It is great! There wasn’t much here today. We had a 20 degree swing with a cold front. They should be around tomorrow. Frank filled up the feeders now that the rain has passed & it will warm up some tomorrow. I will be heading to the polls at 6:30. It’s only a block from my house so I will bundle up and walk up to the church where our precinct is. Hope things turn out tomorrow! ๐Ÿ™‚
