SQUARES – The Sleepy Kind

Long-eared Owl sleeping in a tall tree at Desert Wildlife Refuge outside of Las Vegas, Nevada.

This Long-eared Owl was taking a nap in the middle of the day at the Desert National Wildlife Refuge located outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. Sleep by day so they can hunt by night.

It certainly was! I think we picked up 10 life birds that day. That’s what I call a great day of birding! 😁

Noooo! 😂 1/2 an eyelid cracked for 1/2 a second. Then it was like “I had a rough night. I could care less if you want to stand there and gawk”. 😊 hehehe!

hehe! Apparently haven’t mastered it all yet. I just saw an Easter Phoebe on our feeders when I pulled into the driveway. Bird was still in the yard by the time I went in to get my camera, but flew as soon as I turned the corner from the edge of the house from the backyard. So much for being stealthy! LOL! 🙂

you need to put a motion sensitive camera on the bird feeders… 🙂

Yes I know. The kind I want, I can’t afford & it wouldn’t take what I can get with my Sony. I need to set up a blind out front. 😎

Yes I’m sure they will. As it is, I sit at my dining room table with my binoculars because that is the best view of the bird feeders. Luckily, our new neighbor is a cop and he knows we are into our birds. 🙂

must be nice to have a cop as a neighbor, and I’m sure he would have been wondering what was going on with the binoculars if he didn’t know about your love for birds…

He & his girlfriend just bought the house a couple of months ago. My neighbor passed away in February. She was 94. They are nice people and I’m glad they moved in. 🙂

She was living by herself. Still walked her garbage can out to the road every week. Mentally had all her faculties. She was amazing! One of her sons that grew up with Frank came over to cut her grass & keep up with repairs. Really miss her. 😊

That’s how I hope to be at that age!

Some too although my genes are not promising. Frank’s dad had full mental capacity at age 92 when he passed from complications of leukemia. He lived with the disease for 25 years. A real prodigy! It was his attitude! Frank has a much better gene pool than I do, but I can hope! My Mom had dementia at age 65, died at 67 & dad died of Alzheimer’s at age 74. I think I take better care of myself than either of them. 😊

that is impressive to live to taht age with leukemia for so long. and let’s hope there is some advancements in the treatment and prevention of dementia…
