Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge
Engine 1504 is sitting in it’s final resting spot behind the original Jacksonville Union Terminal which is now the Prime Osborne Convention Center in downtown Jacksonville, Florida. For anyone who wants to admire its beauty and take photos, the lot is open most days. The restoration which is near to “as-built” condition as when it went into service just after World War I is remarkable. A great article of the history of this train can be found here with some pre-restoration photos.

That’s a fine-looking machine! I bet the hurricanes never move it.

It’s pretty solid. So far it has held its own but we haven’t had a direct hit of a major hurricane in over 80 years. Hope I didn’t just jinx us! 😝

Great photos of equally great subject matter, Lisa. No matter the era or the number on the train (in this case be it 1504 or, as in the following song from Merle, 451) there’s something mighty special about trains and the undeniable feelings they endear. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJUDxFOH0Pc

They are nostalgic and historic. Plus the world relies on them for dang near everything! I should have added this video because that intro is so perfect. Thanks for sharing. 😊

YW, Lisa. And as Johnny Cash also helped remind us, so goes a line from one of his many memorable songs, “Come along and ride this train.”
