Oct 13 – BOTD – Great Blue Heron w/Wood stork

Great Blue Heron & Wood Stork fishing in shallow water at Lettuce Lake Park, Tampa, FL.

It’s been a while since I featured a bird of the day. Here is my entry for Granny Shot It’s  Bird of the Day (BOTD) challenge.

You are getting a two-fer today. In the foreground you are seeing the stealthy Great Blue Heron. In the background, you are observing the Wood Stork. Both are avid fisherman…fisherwomen…fisherbirds…well, that’s what they do for a living…they fish! 😉 This photo was taken at Lettuce Lake Park in Tampa, Florida.

I was inspired to feature the Wood Stork because of a fellow blogger, novelist & emmy award winning journalist da-AL. She posted an Australian White Ibis & I responded to her about how much it looks like the Wood Stork. She had never heard of the Wood Stork. Check out her blog by clicking on the link above.

Sometimes you just get lucky. I took some photos of a Willet today & a Sanderling moved in the foreground. Just got home. Haven’t looked at them yet. Fingers crossed 🤞 😂

I hope they will be in focus! Sometimes I can’t wait to get home to look at my photos on the big screen…

I remember hearing a whopping crane when I was a kid. I’d love to see them return to the mountains.

I’d love to see them return period!! They are not that common. There was 1 in Gainesville FL earlier in the year. It would be a life bird for me. We never saw it on numerous trips down there when I had to go to the VA. Still searching for it.

I wish I’d fallen in love with birds at a younger age. Now I can do it vicariously through your blog. Beautiful photo.

Thank you. I wasn’t young when I got into birding and it certainly keeps me on my toes along with my hubby who thinks he’s still a teenager. He’s 64 & can do circles around me. Glad you like the photos. 😊

Yes I have lots of photos of them. Haven’t posted them yet. I’ve seen them at this park & all over Florida. We are birders.

We have a great blue in our backyard who lives in a very solitary world.
