Here is my entry for Granny Shot It’s Bird of the Day (BOTD) challenge.
One of our favorite resident birds in Florida. They are often referred to a snake birds because they will dive for their food and reappear with that long neck coast along the water. To learn more about these awesome feathered friends, check them out on Wikipedia.
Also another great read is from Audubon about how climate change is changing the range of these birds. Rare bird sightings maybe the new norm.

Anhingas are such fun to watch. We see a great many of them when we visit Wakulla Springs.

If we are birding near water, we see at least one. I saw one the day we saw the hawk at UNF on the circle of life piece. He obviously took backseat to what we encountered that day.

We’ve seen the return of the Cormorant here. I got a nice shot of one splashing the water with its wings as it flew. A little research told me that in Asia they use them like falcons to fish with.

I know. I saw a documentary on it. Can’t remember what network. Maybe NatGeo, Discovery or PBS. It was quite interesting.

Are these the same thing as commorants?

They are very similar but a different bird. Their beaks are long & sharp. The cormorants beak curves at the end. They behave similar & have to dry their wings like the cormorants. You often see them together in the same habitat here in Florida.
